Natural brightness and precise ceramic detail
E-max is chosen when visible teeth need a refined aesthetic restoration with lifelike light reflection rather than a flat opaque finish.
E-max is a lithium disilicate ceramic. What separates it from other crown materials is how it handles light: it lets some through rather than stopping it at the surface, which is exactly what natural enamel does. That translucency is why it is the default choice for front teeth, and why an E-max crown next to a natural tooth tends to disappear rather than announce itself.
The same property is its limit. A material that transmits light cannot fully hide what sits behind it, so a very dark tooth base may show through. That is a planning decision, not a defect — and it is why the material is chosen case by case rather than as a house standard.
What defines an E-max treatment plan
A good E-max result depends on material indication, tooth preparation, shade strategy and bite control.
Lifelike translucency
Light passes into the ceramic the way it does into natural enamel, rather than stopping at a flat opaque surface.
Tooth-by-tooth design
Each restoration is designed for its own position, shape and shade rather than reproduced uniformly across the arch.
Bite-safe finish
Contacts are checked and adjusted so the ceramic is not carrying force it was not designed to take.
E-max or zirconium?
The two premium ceramics do different jobs. This is the decision most patients arrive wanting help with.
Many smile-design cases use both — E-max at the front where translucency matters, zirconium further back where load does. That is a considered plan, not an inconsistency.
Who E-max crowns are right for
Good candidates
- Patients wanting natural translucency in the visible smile zone
- Teeth with aesthetic problems from shade, shape or old restorations
- Cases where the tooth structure can support an E-max restoration
Needs review first
- Very dark tooth bases needing stronger masking
- Uncontrolled grinding that can overload ceramics
- Severely weakened teeth needing a different support strategy
How E-max planning is chosen
E-max works best when natural light behaviour is the priority and the tooth structure is suitable.

Olivia — replacing dated restorations
The treatment followed four stages:
- Photo and shade analysis
- Old restoration review
- E-max shape and colour planning
- Try-in and final bonding

Durability and realistic expectations
E-max is a strong aesthetic ceramic, but case selection, bite adjustment and maintenance decide longevity.
- Very dark teeth may limit the final shade. Translucency and masking pull in opposite directions — if the base is very dark, the honest answer may be a different material.
- A night guard may be needed for grinding. Uncontrolled grinding overloads ceramics, and a guard is part of the treatment rather than an optional extra.
- Gum health and margin fit shape the final appearance. The margin sits at the gum line, so inflamed gums change how the whole restoration reads.
- Regular reviews help protect the result. Bite contacts move over time; small adjustments prevent larger problems.
- Preparation is irreversible. A crown means reshaping the tooth beneath it, which is why a veneer is preferred where the tooth is sound and only the appearance needs changing.
Patient timeline
A typical E-max journey for an international patient. Exact durations depend on your case and are confirmed in your written plan.
What E-max crowns cost in Turkey
Dental treatment in Turkey offers up to 70% savings compared with Europe and the USA while providing world-class quality. E-max is priced per tooth, so the total depends on how many teeth are in your smile line.
